Orchestra of Recycled Instruments of Cateura

The Orchestra of Recycled Instruments of Cateura is a musical group formed by young people and children living in the community installed in the vicinity of the landfill Cateura, the main and largest landfill in Asuncion, capital of Paraguay, as well as some other youths from nearby communities, interested in the experience of shaping this Orchestra.

The group´s distinctive feature is the performance of musical works with recycled instruments made from household solid waste in lutherie workshop, held by the group Cateura, where recyclers, advised by Favio Chávez an environmental technician who has worked in the area since 2006, have started to use leftover rubbish to develop tools that emit musical sounds.

The instruments manufactured from garbage imitate violins, violas, cellos, basses, guitars, flutes, saxophones, trumpets, trombones and percussion instruments.
