Born in Vigo, she began her vocal training at the Escuela Superior de Canto in Madrid.
She began her artistic activity at the Teatro Real as a soloist with the Spanish National Choir. After several seasons in Heidelberg and other German theatres, she continues her operatic activity as a free lancer in numerous productions. He also carries out an intense activity as a soloist in large Oratories, Masses and Symphonies.
Carmen Durán also devotes herself to cultivating the land of the lieder with special interest, with an important and vast repertoire. She is currently considered one of the best interpreters of Lied, especially from the Romantic and neo-Romantic period in Germany.
At the beginning of 2011 she decided to look for new fields of musical activity and got in touch with the pianist and jazz composer Alberto Conde, professor at the Conservatorio Superior de Música de A Coruña, to whom she proposed a project aimed at exploring the richness of Brazilian music with a jazz approach, Project "Villa-Lobos - A New Way". The CD "Villa-Lobos - A New Way" was recorded in Vigo, 2012, and was released with live shows in A Coruña and Vigo, in October 2013.
